The cat is considered a symbol of witchcraft and the magic arts, especially if its color is black. To conjure is to call upon a spirit by means of a magic ritual. Halloween and Samhain are perfect times to honor the inspiration and impact of the black cat!

For example, according to Irish mythology, Samhain was a time when the “doorways” to the Otherworld opened, allowing supernatural beings and the souls of the dead to come into our world. Hence, Samhain can be viewed as a festival for the dead.
Oweynagat (which translates as “cave of the cats”) is one of the many gateways to the Otherworld where beings and spirits were said to have emerged on Samhain.
